Short story: Saturday Oct. 5th we set up a stand over a pair of scrapes. I didn't return until Monday morning after an uneventful morning I got down to see that four new scrapes were made and the old ones had been reworked. Also a large pine tree had been tore up Went back that evening to set, seen nothing until last light when this buck and a smaller one worked there way threw. With a quartering away shot I hit little to far back but the muzzy broadhead grond it's way to one lung. He ran les then 100 yards.

Well it is not quite a deer but he was deer hunting.  Crongratulations from the MSIN.

Allen,
Thought you might get a kick out of this.  Stuck him on Sat. 10/12/02 about 5PM in Wayne County.  Weight is estimated to be 275#.  We didn't realize there were any in the area.  Makes for a good reason to use an elevated tree stand.

I had been in my stand less than an hour Saturday afternoon, when I saw something dingy white heading my way from across the pasture.  I didn't have any field glasses, and first assumed that it was just a large dog.  As it got closer, it became clear that it was a swine of some kind.  My first thought was that it was just a neighbor's loose pig.  Since I was set up at the edge of a food plot, my guess is that he was heading for the crops.  He passed within 10 yards of me and I could see that there was no evidence of rings, ear tags or other human contact.  I drew my bow and when he was quartering at about 15 yards away, I released.  Two myths were quickly proven untrue.  The expression "Squeal like a stuck hog" is not always true.  He emitted only one low grunt.  The expression "Bled like a stuck hog" is also not always true.  Although, I could clearly see his footprints in the soft soil, there was not a single drop of blood.  My Hoyt MT Sport is set at 65# and it sent the Easton Super Slam aluminum arrow with 100 grain Thunderhead broad head through his chest area.  As he darted around, I could see the broad head protruding out his left side and still see the fletching sticking out his right.  I first thought that I had hit him a little too far to the rear, but the angle proved to be correct for a quick kill.  He exited the area using the very path that I had walked in on.  Not knowing how effective the shot placement was, I stayed in the stand for a full hour before heading in via a different route.  I was joined by my son, Nathan, who was also bow-hunting and together we took the jeep back to look for the hog.  We found him immediately laying on the very trail that I had used earlier.  Apparently, he had expired shortly after being shot.  He had traveled less than 100 yards without leaving a blood trail.  I plan on making my wife a necklace out of the tusks for Christmas - - won't she be pleased!!!!

Thought I would send you some pics.  This first two are a deer that me and Matt Findling got into Saturday morning, the 19th.  We killed three deer out of the same tree in about 20 minutes that morning.  We had the video camera, but were to busy shooting to get anything on film.   green score 131-5/8
