“If only I can get my shoulder turned as he passes behind the next tree….
“Just one more step and he’ll be mine….”

Dear Turkey Hunter

The thrill of luring nature’s greatest game bird to the gun fills our hearts with the same enthusiasm the founding fathers must have had.  Nothing can compare with the beauty of nature captured in a cool spring or fall morning’s hunt, topped off with the trophy of a lifetime, the American wild turkey.

The National Wild Turkey Federation invites you to register your magnificent game bird in our official wild turkey records program.

It is the purpose of this program to provide hunters throughout the world with a permanent recordkeeping system that that will preserve information on all legally-harvested wild turkeys taken in the spirit of fair chase.

Whether it be your first turkey, the largest or even the smallest, we urge you to enter your bird for the record.

Good Hunting

NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATION WILD TURKEY RECORDS
(A MEMBER SERVICE)

NWTF Wild Turkey Records is designed to offer Federation members a way to register any legally-harvested wild turkey, taken anywhere in the world, in a permanent data bank.

The hunter himself judges what constitutes a trophy and what he wants registered, NWTF Wild Turkey Records is not a ranking system.

Both species of turkeys will be accepted for listing: the wild turkey of North America and the ocellated turkey of southern Mexico and Central America.

NWTF Wild Turkey Records will Register both gobblers and hen turkeys taken in sport hunting by lawful means during a legally-established season, retroactive to Fall 1982.

The program will recognize successful turkey hunters among present members and enlist new members for the NWTF.

How to Measure Your Trophy

Spurs must be measured along the center line of the longest dimension.

Beard length is measured from the central point of protrusion from the skin to the end of the longest bristle.

Weight. All turkey must be weighted to the nearest ounce, on scales inspected and certified as accurate for trade by the state or province department or agriculture or on an accurate scale by a licensed guide or outfitter, or on the official scales of a governmental agency. Beard and spur length measurements must be made with a measuring device which is accurate to 1/16 inch. To standardize measurement, all measurements are to be recorded in sixteenths.

Total Score. The formula for overall score is: weight (lbs. And oz.) plus 10 times spur length (r & l) plus 2 times beard length. If more than one beard, add all beards lengths together and then multiply that total by 2.

Beard. Each beard must be measured from the center point of the protrusion from the skin to the end of the longest bristle.

Spurs. Spurs must be measured along the outside center, from the point at which the spur protrudes from the scales leg skin to the tip of the spur.
