2003 Youth Turkey Season

No birds harvested, No shots fired and still the best hunt I have ever been on period.

Got to blind at 6:00 a.m. and had 9 gobblers going Saturday Morning one about 60 yards away. He went with the hens I also heard that morning between him and us, so no go.

Still inside blind at 9:30 a.m. got a response waited just a little bit while we both got ready and turned on the camcorder.

Well hit it a again this time two gobblers responded. WOW! Plus they had cut the distance in half.

Hit again and even closer, a little bit after that finally started to see some movement to my left and coming straight for us. Tyler is asking me where and I told him.

Finally both gobblers ended up about 40 yards in the wood just on the edge of the food plot in straight in front of us. I got them to gobble so Tyler can see them clearly. His head is shaking and he says he is nervous told him to take deep breath and to calm down he was doing fine.

Have some great video. Time came and went as they stayed in that general 5 foot area.

I know they had to see the two hen and the jake decoy but they came to the back side of the jake so they never saw the beard.

For about 2 hours this went on. They responded to no calling, light calling, heavy calling, gobbling, and fighting purrs. They responded to push button calls, box calls, vocal cords every call I had with me.

The one had a good 8" beard and short snood and only stayed in the thicker brush until it decided to roam off and it looked to be 20 plus pounds.

The other had a snood that hung down a good inch past his beck and had a heavy thick beard with what look like a thinner beard 10 to 12 inches long and just above it about at 8 inch pencil beard after a few of us watched the video we are guessing 25 to 28 lbs. He kept gobbling, strutting and doing a circle on ever call with out moving 6 inches in either direction. LOL it was great.

Near the end my legs are hurting, Tyler neck is hurting. Had to pause the tape and start it over because it took so long.

He said this is boring why won't they come in. Age 8 what do you expect. LOL Finally they roamed off about 11:30 p.m. just on the edge of the food plot at 40 yards out of range for a 20 guage and 8 year old shooter in my opinion so we watched them roam off.

Great footage, Tyler had a great time thought the gobbling was cool and loud on Saturday he said.

Played a little pitch and catch that afternoon and went and got something to eat and went to bed.

Sunday a new day back at the blind at 6:00 a.m. had another gobbler about 60 yards off and 5 other going this time, again hens in the area went on off the other direction. It was about 10:30 a hen showed up and hung around 20 yards in front of blind with the decoys.

Ended the hunt at 12:00 on Sunday and went and shot his pellet gun at full shackin up old cokes that left from deer season at the cabin.

I had him at the end of the second day talk about the weekend hunt on the video and ask him if he was disappointed or sad he did not get a turkey. He said not really.

Over all one of the best hunts I have been on. As far as I am concerned it can't get any better.

This makes his third season. First season no visible gobblers. Second season shot fired but missed. Third season was great, can't wait until next year.
