I CHALLENGE YOU TO KEEP THE HERITAGE ALIVE

By: Allen “horntagger” Morris

As a top athlete and even a recorder’s holder when I was in high school and a father of a very active 9 year old in sports. I know one fact that for a very low percentage will go on and for most popular sports will come to a end our youth of today.

As a person that did not pick-up a bow until I was 18 years old in 1984 and with today busy lifestyle this is one thing that brings me great joy every time I shoot an arrow or just sit and enjoy the outdoors with a bow in my hand.

We teach math, science, etc for the future why archery.

I have no affiliation with this organizations I see it as one of the best ways to keep our outdoor heritage strong for this year, and the next 100 years. SO I Allen “horntagger” Morris

I challenge every person (Parent, School Teacher, Etc) to put this in the hands of the person that can make it happen.

I challenge every organization (NWTF, NRA, DU, Delta, QU, NFWF, MULEDEER, RMEF, PHEASANTS, QDMA, ETC.) to help support schools with money for equipment from local and national funds.

I challenge every media outlet, outdoor writers; host of your own outdoor shows to make a statement in support of this.

I challenge companies, like BASS PRO and alike or even business with nothing to do with the outdoor to help with money for equipment also.

NATIONAL ARCHERY IN THE SCHOOLS PROGRAM

"Not everyone can dunk the ball, tackle, or run fast. However, as a young lade from North Pulaski M.S. said, "I can do this!"

A physical education curriculum entitled, Archery: "On Target for Life" co-created by the Kentucky Departments of Education and Fish and Wildlife Resources implemented in more than 200 plus Kentucky elementary, middle and high schools.

Designed to teach Olympic-style target archery in 4th-12th grades, core content covers archery history, safety technique, equipment, mental concentration, and self-improvement. Before presenting the 2-week archery course, teachers undergo a 12-hour National Archery Association Level I Archery-Training program.

Students shoot at bullseye targets placed before an arrow resistance net in their gymnasium. Equipment used is state-of-the art designed to fit every student. Thanks to support from the archery industry, the $4,800 equipment “kits” can be purchased by schools for $2,700. People from every state and several countries have inquired about the program to learn how it might be brought to their students. Through a series of workshops presented around the country, state agencies are learning how to implement the program.

TEACHER REPORT:

1. Students are enthusiastic about learning archery.

2. Students behavior and attendance is improved on archery days.

3. Students that historically resisted PE class are eager to participate in archery

4. Students who excel in archery class are not only the stereotypical athletes

Following a demonstration at Woodford County Middle School on May 15th.

“As I watched the students and their teachers cheering for one another, it was evident this archery program has provided a common experience from which students and teacher can relate to one another. I’m convinced this will improve teacher/student relationships in other classes throughout the year.”

Gene Wilhoit, Commissioner of Education

“We were especially pleased to note how enthusiastically the students rooted for their fellow archery competitors. It is clear from having watched the student body shoot bows and arrows that archery is a discipline suitable for all ages, sexes, and abilities.

Tom Bennett, Commissioner of Fish & Wildlife Resources

DOVE HUNTING WITH MY DAD
By: Tyler “horntagger Jr.” Morris
8 years old - 2003

On September first me and my dad went dove hunting at 4:00 a.m..

We ate a big breakfast, I got done seconded, my dad got done first, my grandma got done last.

Then me and my dad loaded up the truck. Me and my dad got into the truck.

Then me and my dad put on bug spray, we even had to put it on are hats!

And then we started the hunt at first there were no doves at all but then some flew over our heads.

My dad shot at them and missed but then some came in front of us my dad shot at them he hit one!!! Then we didn’t see any more.

So we moved. We Shot 7 there then I shot at my target three or four times.

Then we left and went to my dad’s friends house. We had some snacks and then we left to my grandma’s house and ate lunch there.

Then we went to dove hunt again we shot three doves there.

My son wrote this for a school project. Makes me proud. Allen “horntagger” Morris.
